Hazmat Training and More Information

Hazmat training was held at Mifflinburg Ambulance Company (Instructor: Terry Brown) from 1-5pm on Saturday, January 7, 2006.

CART Attendance: Norm Conrad, Dr. Borden Loving, Jeff Brabant, Claudia Brabant, Louise Apple, Carol Williams, Barry Sands, Anne Sands, Dianne Lamb, Vince Lamb, and Jennifer Dudash.

Topics Included:

  • This was a basic awareness, recognition and identification course.
  • Primary and secondary contamination.
  • The 9 classifications of placards and their limitations.
  • The ERG (Emergency Response Guidebook) was explained. This included how to use it, and how to look up materials by name, chemical family, placard information or truck type. Public safety and evacuation according to the ERG was also discussed.
  • “Identifying the Problem,” a related movie was shown.
  • A brief overview of ICS (Incident Command System).
  • Finally, a test was administered.

Remember this is a mandatory course for CART volunteers. The next training is Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at 6:30pm at Career Link in Selinsgrove, Pa. You must call Amanda McClain to register @ 570-372-0535

Other Upcoming Events:

For April 2006, an animal rescue course is being planned.

For Spring 2006, a Level I water rescue course is being planned.

IS-700 Training (NIMS) is being held on Thursday January 19, 2006 at the Union County Government Center, 155 N. 15 th Street, Lewisburg, Pa 17837. Please RSVP by 1-17-06 at 570-523-3201. (This is another mandatory course.)

ICS 100 and 200 courses. These courses will be offered at some point in a classroom setting. But, if anyone is interested in online training, the following links provide it.
