- United
States Department of Agriculture (USDA) USDA is the
country's largest conservation agency, encouraging voluntary
efforts to protect soil, water, and wildlife on the 70 percent
of America's lands that are in private hands. USDA is provides
safety of meat, poultry, and egg products and also brings
housing, modern telecommunications, and safe drinking water
to rural America.

Animal and Plant Heath Inspection Service (USDA-APHIS)
The Animal and Plant Health inspection Service (APHIS) is
responsible for protecting and promoting U.S. agricultural
health, administering the Animal Welfare Act, and carrying
out wildlife damage management activities and efforts to
provide the Nation with safe and affordable food.

of Homeland Security This web site provides an update
of the headlines in the Department of Homeland Security,
the current threat advisory condition level, valuable information
about emergencies and disasters, travel and transportation,
and dozens of other related topics.
Disaster
- Federal
Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) FEMA leads the effort
to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage
federal response and recovery efforts following any national
incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities,
trains first responders, and manages the National Flood
Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.

- IS-111 Livestock in Disasters It describes the various
hazards that animals can face and how to mitigate them,
as well as how to respond to an actual disaster.

Disaster Education Coalition (NDEC) NDEC develops and
disseminates consistent educational information for the
public about disaster preparedness. It formulates information
and advises the public about how to prepare and respond
appropriately to natural and human-caused disasters.
Educational Materials
- FEMA
Communtiy Emergency Response Team Training makes people
better prepared to respond to and cope with the aftermath
of a disaster. IT furthers the process of citizens understanding
their responsibility in preparing for disaster and also
increases their ability to safely help themselves, their
family and their neighbors.

Independent Study Course List This website provides
training courses from IS-1 to IS-800 - certificates are
issued by FEMA after exams are passed and CEU's can be earned.
- Extension
Disaster Education Network (EDEN) The Extension Disaster
Education Network (EDEN) is a collaborative multi-state
effort by Extension Services across the country to improve
the delivery of services to citizens affected by disasters
and it links Extension educators from across the U.S. and
various disciplines, enabling them to use and share resources
to reduce the impact of disasters.

AgSafe Network This provides educational information
for making the agricultural workplace safer and healthier
and also contains materials relevant for disasters and emergency
situations. It includes the monthly newsletter, "Safety
News & Notes" written by Carol J. Lehtola.
- The
Center for Food Security and Public Health at Iowa State
University CFSPH efforts to increase national preparedness
for accidental or intentional introduction of disease agents
that threaten food production or public health. It prepares
and distributes educational materials on bioterrorism and
agroterrorism agents to veterinarians, public health officials
and medical professionals.

for Humane Euthanasia This website discusses various
methods veterinarians "put animals down" to end their suffering.
The Website serves as a brochure for lay people who do not
have immediate access to a veterinarian during a crisis
that requires euthanasia.

Disaster Handbook This handbook helps Extension personnel
assist their communities in times of disasters and also
refers to surviving disaster situaations and recovering
from them.
